"A student should be permitted to graduate without having read around the subject extensively. Discuss the professional implications"

Initially, my response to this would be that a student should not be able to graduate a particular subject without extensive reading around it because extensive reading around the subject is essentially what one must do to complete a subject and so without having done so it would seem wrong to be able to graduate. Extensive is defined as covering or affecting a large area. Using this definition, an opposite argument can be constructed. This is because one may be well versed in one area of a subject and not another area, which could see them to graduating without having an 'extensive' knowledge as it may not be necessary.

The professional implications of this are that an individual could be an expert in an area of a subject, which, if this is what they need for their particular job will be beneficial. However, if someone can complete a course without extensive knowledge, but then may need extensive knowledge for their particular job after having graduated then this will be detrimental professionally.
