"Plagiarism is intellectual theft”

Plagiarism is the presentation, as if it were your own work, of material from another source. It is a dishonest method of producing work and is unfair on the original writer of the work as they are not getting credit for work that they have done. There are four common types of plagiarism;

Direct plagiarism - which is the word-for-word copying of someone else’s work without a statement that it is someone else’s and without identifying it with quotation marks. This form is unethical and academically dishonest.

Self-plagiarism - self-plagiarism is when a student submits their own previous work, or mixes parts of previous works without permission of their tutor etc. It also applies to submitting the same piece of work for multiple class’s without permission from both professors from each class.

Mosaic plagiarism - This is when a student borrows phrases from a source without identifying it without quotation marks or when someone simply finds synonyms for the work of someone else but keep to the same structure and meaning of the original work.

Accidental plagiarism - This is when a person neglects to cite their sources or misquotes their sources, or unintentionally paraphrases.

In conclusion, there are different types of plagiarism, but none of which are acceptable as any form of it is dishonest and shouldn't be taken lightly as it stealing work from someone else and so it is justified to be punished. Of course there can be occasions where it is unintentionally or accidentally done, but that is why work should always be checked to see that it is truthful.
